4) Rise Of The Robots
In an interview with the BBC a few years back, the recently deceased "super scientist"
Stephen Hawking, told the BBC that our efforts to create thinking machines ("artificial
intelligence" poses a threat to our very existence.
He said: "Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it will take off on its own and
redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate," He went on to say that "Humans are limited
by slow biological evolution, and couldn't compete and would eventually be seen as
unnecessary".
Think about our own evolution as humans.
NOW... think about our advancements in the computer world in just the last 10-20
years. We're obviously WAY behind machines and will have to keep trying to out-smart
the "smarter" computers of the future.
We actually already see this playing out right in front of us in a totally different way...
Manufacturing jobs have already been replaced by robots which is a LOT less
expensive in the long run. As more and more jobs are lost to AI computers and Rosie
from the Jetsons, there will be more joblessness and more economic disparity, which
we know can also lead to more crime and civil unrest.
What I worry about? Fem-bots baby!
5) Aliens
Again, in Stephen Hawking's interview, he also didn't count out that aliens could one
day land on our planet. And basically he said, if they do... we better nuke them!
The analogy he gave was how well the landing of the Pilgrims in the New World
worked out for the Native Americans. He said that the only reason they'd likely be out
roaming the universe would be for natural resources and if they're advanced enough to
travel and land on our planet, they're not coming to ask nicely.
There are limited resources in ANY crisis...and as we’ve seen, it takes only 3 days to
go from “calm to crisis” when the store shelves are empty.
