THIS WEEK'S TRANSCRIPT
As it turns out, in side-by-side tests, chimps have been shown to have better memories
than humans and one video of a chimp showed him using an iPhone and navigating
instagram like a pro.
I can't even do that!
2) Asteroids & Comets
I have one of our readers to thank for this... Thank you to SFC Retired Ronny Powell
for recommending the apocolyptic novel, Lucifer's Hammer.
First let me tell you about Asteroids: These are "small" rocky bodies in the inner Solar
System orbiting the Sun. There are literally MILLIONS of them flying around space and
throughout time, they've collided with our planets - including earth.
NASA is constantly watching space for these asteroids and in one inteview, the super
scientist, Stephen Hawking, said that it was a mathematical CERTAINTY that we'd one
day be hit by another asteroid.
In fact, Hawking went on to discuss the 2004 report about the asteroid Apophis, which
is the size of a 100-story-tall skyscraper and weighs about 20 million tons.
Adophis caused some concern because initial observations indicated a probability of
up to 2.7 percent that it would hit Earth on April 13, 2029.
That's 8 years from now folks!
He added: “Speeding through space at 28,000mph – ten times as fast as a bullet – the
Adophis asteroid carries as much energy as all the world’s nuclear weapons
combined."
Now the good news is that because of how they travel, we can usually spot an asteroid
a few decades to a few hundred years out.
But there's something potentially even WORSE looming out there...
Asteroids have Earth-like orbits, so IF they collided with Earth, it would likely be a
glancing blow.
COMETS on the other hand, are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that
travel around the sun in random paths. So they can thus slam into the planet head-on.
