1. Planet Of The Apes
• Monkeys have figured out how to work
around barriers, using tools and even
sharpening stones, to od it.
• Chimps have been shown to have better
memories than humans.
• How long will it be before the apes learn
enough to become a real threat to human
dominance?
2. Asteroids And Comets
• Thanks to SFC Retired Ronny Powell for
recommending the apocalyptic novel,
Lucifer’s Hammer.
• There are millions of asteroids out there,
flying around and colliding with planets,
including Earth.
• NASA is constantly watching space for
these.
• Stephen Hawking says it is a mathematical
CERTAINTY that we’ll be hit one day by
another asteroid.
• The asteroid Apophis is the size of a 100
story skyscraper, weighs 20 million tons, and
may well hit the Earth in 2029.
• Comets, meanwhile, whip around at speeds
that will give them 9 times the power of an
asteroid.
• A direct hit from a comet would devastate
us... and we’ll only have about 2 years’
notice if one is headed for us.
3. Children Of Men
• This Clive Owen movie was about a world
where no babies are born.
• Sperm counts are down 60% since 1973.
• By 2045, that could be zero, meaning we
stop having kids.
• Perfluoroalkyls (PFAs) in our plastics,
carpets, electronics, soaps, etc. are killing us
off.
• They are “forever chemicals” the body can’t
break down.
• Many landfills are leaking alarming levels of
PFAs into our groundwater.
4. Rise Of The Robots
• The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
could doom our world.
• It’s already playing out, and some of the
experiments in which the Internet is used to
teach AI computers has resulted in bizarre
threats and even racist outbursts from the
AIs.
5. Aliens
• Stephen Hawking said that if the aliens do
come to our planet, we had better nuke
them.
• If they’re advanced enough to come to our
planet, they’ll probably be looking for
resources, and they won’t ask nicely.
• Resources are limited in ANY crisis here on
Earth, and it takes only 3 days to go from
calm to crisis.
• Once the grocery store shelves are empty,
we see how desperate people become.
• Asking turns to begging, begging turns to
demanding, and demanding turns to taking
by force, so we have to prepare.
